A Comprehensive Guide To Improving Your Mental Health
What is Mental Health?
In Psychology, Mental Health includes the emotional, Psychological, and social well-being of a
particular person. To keep it more simple, mental health is nothing but a level
of wellness or well-being.
If a particular
group, person, or individual is having a high level of well-being then we can
say that he/she is having positive mental health, which is good. Mental health
also assists people in determining how they handle stress, react to situations
and much more.
Mental Health America—an organization that has been
around for more than a century now—released its annual State of Mental Health
in America report recently. In it, MHA revealed that more than 44 million
Americans are dealing with a mental health condition like depression or
anxiety at the moment.
The good news is that about 20 million people are
improving mental health issues by seeking out the necessary treatment. But
unfortunately, that means that about 24 million people aren’t getting the
treatment that they need to get their mental health issues under control.
Whether you’ve been diagnosed with a mental health
condition or not, it’s important for everyone to work
on improving mental health for themselves. Your mental health is every bit
as important as your physical health.
Importance of mental health:
Mental health is
an integral part of human life. The National Institute of Mental Health has a
mantra, 'No health without mental health. This means one simply cannot live a
healthy life without having proper mental health.
Our mental health
impacts how we feel, think, behave with situations each day and interact with
others. Mental health also determines our decision process, how we deal with
stress and much more.
That’s the reason
why it is important to keep mental health sound and fit.
Another reason why
mental health is important because it impacts our thoughts, behaviors and
emotions. If we are mentally healthy then our productivity and effectiveness in
activities like work, school or care giving will increase automatically.
